The Cairo International Film Critics Week (CIFCW) is an Independent, parallel program organized by the Egyptian Film Critics Association (EFCA), member of The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), during the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) and supported by the festival.
CIFCW aims to contribute the art and science of film (Fiction – Documentary – Animation) and encourage intercultural dialogue.
The 3rd edition of CIFCW will be held in Cairo from 17th to 23rd November 2016 during the 38th edition of Cairo International Film Festival (November 15 – 24, 2016).
The CIFCW is an international competition for Feature Films (7 films), in addition to a Film Panorama, a Film Seminar, an honouring ceremony and a criticism workshop.
The board of the CIFCW will choose the jury of the international competition. The jury will be comprised of a Chair and two members, none of who will have any connections with the competition films.
The Jury is obliged to award the following prizes: 1- The Shadi Abd El Salam Prize for best film (for the director). 2- The Fathy Farag Prize for best artistic contribution.
The Jury can neither grant any extra prizes or special mentions, nor can it divide any prize or award one film more than two prizes.
The films are selected by a direct invitation from the board of the CIFCW, or through the chosen entries filed on the CIFCW website (http://cairofilmcriticsweek.com). The submission of the films will be opened until September 15, 2016.
To participate in the CIFCW, all films must meet the following criteria:
The screening copies will be insured by CIFCW for the duration they are in its possession and will cover the cost of returning the screening copies not later than November 30, 2016.
Participation in the International Critics' Week designates full acceptance of all regulation articles which are issued in Arabic and English and are subject to Egyptian law. In case of any dispute, the original Arabic text is to be taken as the decisive transcript.
1- All Films must be the first or the second feature of its director. Duration of each film must exceed the sixty-minute mark.
2- Films must be produced after October 2015.
3- All films must not have been screened in Egypt before.
4- All films must not have been broadcasted on any media before.
5- All films must fill the required entry form.
6- All films must send a link with Arabic or English subtitles to the following email: firstname.lastname@example.org
7- In case the film is selected send the following materials by email, not later than September 20, 2016 to the following email: email@example.com
a-Stills from the film and a photo of the director.
b- The poster of the film.
c- Biographies and filmographies of the filmmakers.
d- Three minutes of the film for promotional purposes.
e- Printed English dialogue of the film.
8- In case the film is selected, screening copies of the films shall be sent, not later than October 15, 2016 to the following address: Cairo International Film Festival 17 Kasr EL Nile Cairo Egypt
All copies must meet the following criteria:
a- Copies must be DCP or HDCAM.
b- Copies must be in the original language of the film.
c- Copies must be accompanied by Arabic or English subtitles.
